Artist Statement

For much of my childhood, coping meant disconnecting from experiences I didn’t yet have the tools to make sense of. This created a disconnect between the adversity I endured and my understanding of its impact, which I now work to process in my adult life. Through color and form, my work explores the emotional reality of living through adversity and the ongoing journey of healing.

My art practice combines expressionism with influences from the ethos of punk culture to confront contemporary subjects of trauma, identity, and the nonlinear process of healing. Rooted in my experience as a Black non-binary person, my practice confronts the systems and societal norms that produce harm while exploring my personal journey of healing and life post trauma to connect to larger societal questions.

Ultimately, my art exists to shed light on the way trauma impacts and shapes our lives, it holds space for the harsher sides of reality to be witnessed with care, empathy, and compassion. Through sharing my work, I hope that others feel seen in their struggles and find comfort in the community of people who share their experiences.
